On this unique anniversary of mine, I have a special appeal to all those who are engaged in "news industry"- television, radio and the print press. WOULD YOU PLEASE STOP ACTING LIKE THE WHOLLY OWNED SUBSIDIARY OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND START CRITICIZING BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES EQUALLY SO THAT WE CAN HAVE A MORE HONEST POLITICAL SYSTEM? If you can't, please register as a "lobbyist" and continue to use the media by billingThe Democratic Party for the air time or space in the print media,to make your political contribution of billions of dollars every year!
Let me also remind you that our founding fathers gave us three fundamental institutions - The Church, The State and The Press - so that we will have well-balanced power structure. And to those who claim that there is a wall running between the church and the state, let me also remind you that the very same wall runs further down and goes between the press and state!
The Purpose of the church is to assure that we have a civilized society with some moral principles, and the legitimate purpose of governments, in a free society, is to do the things that individuals cannot do by themselves. The only legitimate role of a free press is to closely monitor what THE GOVERNMENT does, not just the Republican party or any political party does.
Forty years ago today, on September 30th, 1973, I came to America, a country I fell in love with when I was 10 years of age. Yes, of course, I was a "documented-immigrant." I grew up in India and since 1961 I started learning more and more about America. I had two pen-pals here and they used to send me Time, Newsweek, Look, Fortune and other magazines. Those who helped me in my quest for knowledge about America also include the late DeWitt Wallace, the founder and Chairman of Reader's Digest magazine and Mr. Carl Rowan, former director of USIS.
When I first came to America, the country was mired in a political turmoil called Water Gate. People were tired of Viet Nam war and were taking their frustration on government and even though the war was started by President Kennedy and continued by Lyndon Johnson, after Richard Nixon's election, pandemonium broke out. Nixon's excesses, gave his enemies, especially the press, a chance to characterize him as the world's worst criminal.
The press found a golden opportunity for the largest POWER GRAB in the history of mankind and a permanent target for blame, scorn and ridicule - the Republican Party. What America did not realize at that time was that many of those so-called journalists were actually democrat party activists and socialist sympathizers. And they did change America quite a lot!
As a student of politics and government I have been spending close to six hours every day during the last forty years, listening, learning, analyzing and recording my observations and conclusions. Whatever the daily events are, they have a direct or indirect impact on our lives immediately or in the near future.
The Press is responsible for what America is today because a large segment of our population gets their information through the press. If tomorrow's New York Times headline says REPUBLICANS shut down the government, half of the people would believe it. Then by the evening ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN will follow suit. And Fox News will be powerless to prove otherwise.
Meanwhile, we are piling up debt in trillions, one-fourth of them in just waste and fraud, for our children and grand children to pay off. Well, news industry, would you please CARE TO TELL US THE TRUTH?
